Day 1: Transfer to Musanze and Mount Karisimbi Hike
Your journey begins early at 4:30 AM, where you will meet your guide and company representative at your hotel in Kigali. After a brief introduction and overview of the trip, you will set off on a scenic 2-hour drive to Musanze, located near Volcanoes National Park. Upon arrival, you will drive to the park headquarters in Kinigi Village for an orientation and briefing by the park rangers. This is where you’ll learn about the hike’s route, safety measures, and what to expect during the trek.
Following the briefing, you will begin your trek to the summit of Mount Karisimbi, which rises to an impressive 4,507 meters (14,787 feet) above sea level. The hike typically takes 6-7 hours, depending on your pace and the conditions along the way. Along the trek, you’ll be treated to panoramic views of lush forests, rolling hills, and the other volcanoes in the region. The challenging ascent is rewarded by the beauty of the environment and the sense of accomplishment as you approach the summit.
Once you reach the summit, you’ll enjoy a well-deserved dinner and overnight stay at the camp, where you can relax and take in the majestic views of the surrounding mountains. The cool mountain air and serene atmosphere will make for a restful night under the stars.

Day 2: Descend Mount Karisimbi and Return to Kigali
After a restful night at the summit, start your day with a leisurely breakfast while taking in the incredible views. The descent begins shortly afterward, and you’ll make your way back down the mountain. Along the way, you’ll have an en-route lunch, giving you the chance to relax and reflect on the adventure.
Once at the base of the mountain, you will meet your guide and begin your drive back to Kigali. The journey back provides another opportunity to admire Rwanda’s stunning landscapes. Upon arrival in Kigali, you will be dropped off at your hotel, where you can unwind and enjoy a delicious dinner to conclude your incredible journey.
