Buhoma Sector
Located in the northwest near Kanungu District, Buhoma was Bwindi’s first trekking hub, established in 1993. It hosts four habituated gorilla families, including Mubare, the park’s oldest group. As the most developed sector, Buhoma offers a range of accommodations, from luxury lodges to budget camps, making it ideal for first-time visitors seeking accessibility and amenities.
Ruhija Sector
Perched in the east at 2,350 meters, Ruhija is Bwindi’s highest sector, offering cooler climates and stunning views toward the Virunga Mountains. In the south, near Kisoro District, Rushaga boasts the most gorilla families eight, including Nshongi and Bweza offering the highest permit availability. Rushaga also offers gorilla habituation experiences allowing 4-hour visits with semi-habituated groups.
Nkuringo Sector
Southwest-facing and rugged, Nkuringo sits at 2,161 meters, overlooking the Kashasha River Valley.
